Eyelid surgery is done to correct upper lids that droop or lower lids that look puffy. Either of these problems can make you look old and tired. Eyelid surgery will correct this, leaving you with a more youthful and alert appearance. It can also add a crease in the upper lid to Asian eyes.

Eyelid surgery can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures like a facelift or forehead lift. A forehead lift is important for a good result if the eyebrows are drooping. The upper eyelid lift is done by means of an incision in the eyelid crease, allowing for removal of excess skin and fat. The resulting scar is usually not detectable. 

The lower lid lift is done through an incision usually located on the inner surface of the lower lid. This allows for no visible scar as well as no change in eye shape. Any skin wrinkles of the lower lid or corner of the eye can be treated at the same time with laserbrasion. This procedure takes around two hours and is done with either I.V.sedation or general anesthesia. Insurance may cover the upper lid surgery if they are affecting your vision. Insurance will not cover the lower lid surgery as it is considered completely cosmetic in nature. Bruising and swelling are to be expected but there is virtually no pain. You can drive 1 week after surgery and most patients are able to return to work by then also.
